Cannabis legalization in the state of New Jersey allows for medicinal marijuana to be used by qualifying patients. The New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act is implemented by the New Jersey Department of Health.

In order to qualify, patients have to have maintained a bona fide relationship with a physical who is registered with the Medicinal Marijuana Program. This relationship has to have existed for at least a year, unless the physician testifies that they have witnessed the patient with a debilitating condition for more than four visits.

Approved debilitating conditions include, ALS, MS, terminal cancer, muscular dystrophy, Crohn’s disease, or some other terminal illness in which the patient has less than a year to live.
