Cannabis cards allow patients to use weed as a depression treatment

It seems that new reports are showing up daily to cite the medicinal benefit of marijuana. And you can’t help but wonder why this information wasn’t more readily available before. Certainly ancient China knew a thing or two about the medicinal uses for marijuana. This knowledge has been passed down throughout the centuries in Eastern medicine. So why has it taken Western science so long to bring these health benefits to light?

Perhaps the reason is that there’s been a lot of negative stigma associated with partaking of occasional ganja cigarette. Marijuana has been practically vilified in the mainstream media and even compared to other illicit substances with negative effects on the body, mind and soul.

Despite prior misconception, marijuana can actually help people. University of Buffalo’s Research Institute on Addictions (RIA) finds that cannabis can be effective in treating chronic stress-related depression. This study quickly attracted attention when published in The Journal of Neuroscience, and research suggests that stress reduces the production of endocannabinoids – vital chemicals in the brain. These chemicals regulate several things in the brain, namely mood, appetite and emotions.

“Chronic stress is one of the major causes of depression… Using compounds derived from cannabis — marijuana — to restore normal endocannabinoid function could potentially help stabilize moods and ease depression.” -Samir Haj-Dahmane, senior research scientist at RIA

While the RIA’s research was performed on rats, their findings and the implications shine a bright light on how cannabis can help in treating depression.

Another type of depression that marijuana has shown to help treat is PTSD. Clinical research conducted in New Mexico draws a link between cannabis consumption and a reduction in symptoms of PTSD in some patients who suffer from the mental disorder. The patients who benefitted most experienced as much as a 75 percent reduction in symptoms associated with PTSD.

Currently more than 14 million Americans reportedly suffer from depression. Many of these individuals are open to any option that might help them experience relief from this mental disorder. Could it be possible that the solution lies in a plant that has been the subject of prohibition for decades?

Many are now waking up to the idea of the practical and medicinal uses for cannabis, and actively seeking its benefits for treatment. Oftentimes, it’s necessary to travel to another state to do this in a safe, legal and comforting setting. Patients from all over the United States and beyond are mobilizing to find out if marijuana can be their miracle cure.

Baby Boomers are currently the generation with the most time to travel, and they are also those who most frequently use marijuana for medical reasons such as depression and pain relief. Research has shown that attitudes towards weed are changing, and that most Boomers see it as a better and safer bet than pharmaceutical medications. Because BudandBreakfast.com offers such travelers the opportunity to continue with their medication while they are away, we have become the go-to website for simple bookings of great accommodations in states and countries where legalization has been successful.
