Good news if you are a medical marijuana patient in Canada. You can now grow your own weed — or if you prefer, get someone else to grow it for your consumption. This is all due to a new law that was announced a couple of weeks ago regarding the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes in Canada.
There will be a limit set on the amount of weed that a registered medical marijuana patient can grow or have grown for them, but this is a very positive step in the right direction for cannabis in Canada.
If you are a registered medical marijuana patient in Canada and you would like to grow your own weed, you have to submit an application to register with Health Canada. You also have to make sure that you can provide the original documentation from your health-care practitioner. Also, you have to provide information on where you plan on cultivating and storing your cannabis plants and marijuana once it is processed.
If you are not well enough or skilled enough to grow your own weed, then you can have someone else do it for you, but they have to pass a background check, and they are not allowed to grow for more than two people at any one time. Other than that, medical marijuana patients in Canada have the option of purchasing their cannabis from a Health-Canada approved provider, of which there are 34 dispensaries.
This is an exciting move forward for Canada. We have also heard of a startup in Canada that is working on new technology to make growing cannabis even easier. Grobo has developed a system that automates the entire cultivation process. It was originally intended to grow food, but the creators discovered that it was most effective when used to grow weed. Now that medical marijuana users in Canada can grow their own cannabis at home, the creators of Grobo are hoping that recreational legalization will come soon.
