Cannabis legalization in Washington with Initiative Measure 502. Marijuana is licensed and regulated in a manner similar to alcohol. Distribution, production and possession are also regulated. There are three categories of licenses for producers, processors and retailers.

Measure 502 appeared on the general ballot in November and passed at more than 50 percent. The Initiative makes it legal for small amounts of cannabis to be possessed by people over the age of twenty one.

People who are over the age of twenty one are allowed to have a maximum of two ounces of marijuana for personal use. They can also grow their own, but no more than six plants per person and only three of those plants are allowed to be mature and flowering.

In Washington, it is not illegal to give (without payment) up to one ounce of cannabis to another person, but it is illegal to sell it. There are strict rules stating where weed can be smoked, and other regulations that have aggravated pro-pot groups.

The residents worked really hard to gain a legal status for cannabis in their state. It is a wonderful place to travel to, and now welcomes the cannabis tourism that other states like Colorado also enjoy.

The Washington State Travel Guide stresses that cannabis tourists should be aware of the restrictions in place regarding possession and consumption of weed.
