Medical Cannabis legalization in Maine means that eight dispensaries are allowed in the state. The Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Program means that a patient who qualifies can possess up to two and a half ounces of weed and have in their home as many as six mature cannabis plants. These plants can be cultivated and harvested in various stages so that the patient can ensure a continual supply of medication.

In Maine, the primary caregiver of a patient may possess up to two and a half ounces for any qualifying patient in their care. The caregiver can also cultivate and grow cannabis plants for the person that they care for, and can receive monetary compensation for doing so.  A caregiver is allowed to do this for up to five patients, and each patient can entrust up to six cannabis plants to the caregiver.

In Maine, cultivation of cannabis plants has to be done in a locked private facility. The legalization of medical cannabis means that many patients are able to benefit from the healing qualities of weed.
